Primary Transition

Making the move from Primary to Secondary School

There are several pieces of information that can be useful to parents regarding admissions to Colonel Frank Seely Academy.

Applying for a Year 7 place at Colonel Frank Seely Academy

You will know of “National Offer Day” (1 March 2025) whether your child has a place at Colonel Frank Seely Academy or not.

At CFS we are proud of the transition provision made for Year 6s coming up into Year 7. We recognise the thought of transition can be a worrying time for some parents and students, but please rest assured that we will do everything we can to make it as smooth as possible. Before your child starts in September, you should expect the following as part of the transition process:

  • A visit to your child’s school by a member of the pastoral team
  • An induction programme takes place in the Summer Term so that the pupils who are allocated a place can get to know the school. Pupils will be invited to the school induction day when students will take part in a variety of activities and a targeted Summer School. When pupils arrive in September they will be met by the Pastoral Assistant Headteacher and the team and will take part in the induction process. All pupils will be involved in a visit to Nottingham University to share the school’s vision and mission.
  • Pupils with special needs have an extended induction – working with members of the Learning Support Team from the school.
  • Transition mornings/afternoons for English, Maths and Science at CFS for our feeder schools
  • Parents are invited to the induction evening in June/July to receive all the necessary information needed to ensure the transition to secondary school is smooth and meet their child’s form tutor.
